CASE STUDY
Seal & Logo Development for the City of Eastvale, California
The City of Eastvale established itself as the newest city in Southern California on October 1st of 2010. Shortly thereafter, a request for proposal was released in search of a firm to both design the City's seal and logo and to facilitate the involvement of residents throughout the entirety of the design process. DesignLingo submitted a comprehensive proposal, which outlined the step-by-step process for how it would accomplish each goal, and upon review, the City of Eastvale concluded that DesignLingo would be best suited to address the enormity of the project based on its industry experience, design aesthetic, cohesive team dynamic and long track record of client satisfaction.
Our Approach
At the inception of the project, the City of Eastvale established the importance of collaboration from its residents during the development of the seal and logo. DesignLingo’s approach to accomplishing this goal included:
- Developing a call-to-action campaign, branded “Identify Eastvale”, to create awareness and buzz throughout the City
- Promoting community involvement through social media networks and blogs that offered an existing resident following (ex. I love Eastvale website blogs, Eastvale Facebook Fan pages, etc.)
- Coordinating town meetings by leveraging relationships with the Eastvale Chamber of Commerce, the local library and the local high school
- Collaborating with local businesses by placing ballot boxes in their establishments for the use by residents to vote for the seal and logo of their choice.
- Creating an interactive survey which enabled residents to vote for their choice of designs
- Participating in the City’s Independence Day carnival, which allowed residents to both meet the design team and place their vote for designs via on-site ballot boxes
- Coordinating face-to-face meetings between DesignLingo, the City and residents, which served as a means of communicating updates on the design process and the overall progress of the campaign
Areas For Improvement
While the campaign was touted as an overall success, several areas for improvement have been noted:
- DesignLingo would have been able to better impact the promotion of the “Identify Eastvale” campaign by being involved in the selection of a signage company that could have placed signage around the perimeter of the city, thereby contributing to heightening the awareness of the campaign
- A post-project evaluation would have been beneficial to both DesignLingo and the City of Eastvale in reviewing the pros and cons of the campaign and in determining how DesignLingo could be of value in future projects
Summary As a result of participation from residents and feedback from the City, DesignLingo delivered on its promise to provide a modern and timeless seal and logo design, reflective of the essence of the community as a whole. As a result of the success of this and other projects, DesignLingo is well-positioned to become a leading design firm in the California region.
